Last night the forecast seemed grim: high winds and fog between Friday Harbor and La Conner, our Saturday destination. But the morning made a mockery of weather-guessers and we scooted over the tops of Cypress and Guemes Islands—one of my favorite beauty fixes (see the photo posted here). Wide Rosario Strait was kind, rip tides actually a bit of fun, and Swinomish Channel, even two feet below its usual low level, led us, Surprise!, to room on the reciprocal dock of Swinomish Yacht Club, were we settled early enough to walk in sunshine to Calico Cupboard for lunch.
