NEW PineAweigh Adventure — Day One
Day One of a New Week Aboard PineAweigh
Friday, September 21, 2018
Last night held a series of things both delightful and distracting. It was a delight to crawl under the 40-year-old German eiderdown, nestled on a mattress purchased this year after pitching the original, 40-year-old one that came with the boat, and settled, allowing the outside breeze to gently rock the water that rocked us off to sleep.
Distracting: Gentle breeze gained its grownup status during that part of the night one really wishes to sleep through. The cross-stern line rubbed noisily against the hull, squawking just above our heads. White plastic deck chairs fell and scooted across the cockpit like a sycophant bishop to a pope—just above our heads. What’s that? The click of raccoon’s feet crossing the cockpit? Just above our heads. Finally, in the sleepless wee hours, Dave got up and soaped the line, secured the chairs against the wind that moved them and moved the water that moved the line that moved against the hull of PineAweigh. Day One.
