PINEAWEIGH - DAY ELEVEN: Lopez Island, evening

PINEAWEIGH - DAY ELEVEN: Lopez Island, evening

Laughing to tears, that’s what a lazy day in Fisherman Bay, Lopez Island, allowed. We read through old Log entries, 2010, 2011, 2014, the year didn’t matter. All I needed to do was look for Diane’s handwriting and I would run into unforgettable stories.

Take this one, for instance:  “Friday, August 13, 2010/Chatterbox Falls, Louisa Inlet

”As for the ‘razor’ story,” wrote Diane (she becomes the keeper of the log when they travel with us). “That was not one of my better moves. The first time I shaved my legs at Friday Harbor—I questioned whether or not the cover was on the razor, but with no glasses on and not much light in the shower and only five minutes for the $1.50—it looked like the cover was off— and so I shaved best I could. Then, days later, in Egmont, I shaved again. Later, when it was warm enough, and  I finally was able to wear Bermuda’s—my legs were visible— & definitely in need of a shave.” (unhappy face drawn in) “Turns out the cover was on the razor blade all along—Stu-pid! Oh well, it will give us a good laugh for years to come.”

And, indeed, it has. Remind me someday, dear friends following this blog, to tell you about Diane trying to “de-air” her bottle of Moscato using a corkscrew (who . . . In their right mind likes sweet wine!). Or Diane’s Rosario Resort shower debacle, or Tom shucking shoes and rolling up dress trousers to wade after our drifting dingy off Mayne Island. Or my learning not to stand one-foot-on-the-dock-one-foot-on-the-swim-step. Or Dave and big dog stirring up mud at James Island by changing the trajectory of our boat.

Tomorrow, Day Twelve—August 4, off we go to Sidney, Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada where we hope to find that Mariner Pizza still  in business. It’s the important stuff that draws us across Haro Strait.
